On Monday, Labor Day, we had a girl scout troop stop by on their way back to the Highland area. They were visiting local historical areas to earn their Illinois badge. The Silkwood Inn was their last stop on their list of places they had to visit. During their visit the girls had to learn the significance of the Inn and the Trail of Tears. We explained to the girls how Mr. Silkwood met Priscilla (twice), and on the second encounter he was able to purchase her from the Cherokee Chief as they were travelling through on the Trail of Tears. We showed the girls the book Priscilla and the Hollyhocks and explained Priscilla's story. The girls then toured the Inn and learned about some of the things that Priscilla might have done while she lived at the Inn. We are very happy we were able to be a part of the girls earning their badge.
We hope you are able to stop in at one of our events. If you, your club, organization, or family are interested in taking a tour of the Inn, let us know and we will get a tour scheduled with you. You can email us or contact Cindy at 618.218.8325.
Attached are flyers for our chicken & dumpling dinner and annual craft & vendor fair. We would appreciate it if you could share them with your family and friends. We are solely operated from donations and the meals and booth fees at these two events are donations and will be used to help with utilities, upkeep, and maintenance of the District & Museum.
If you have any questions, need further information or would like to attend one of our monthly meetings, please contact us. Our meetings are on the last Monday of the month at 7:00 pm, with the exception of May and December. In May our meeting is the Monday before our Annual  Memorial Weekend BBQ and in December there is no meeting unless merited by the board.
We hope to see you soon!!
Take care, stay healthy, and be safe.
